Affordable Housing Committee

Tisbury Affordable Housing Committee Meetings are held the third (3rd) Monday of every Month at the Tisbury Senior Center Conference Room (34 Pine Tree Road). Starting time is 4pm. Meetings are open to the public. See you there !

Currently, on Martha’s Vineyard, Affordable Housing is a serious problem. The Tisbury Affordable Housing Committee recognizes that there is no single ‘magic’ solution to this problem. Rather there are multiple approaches that when coordinated among public  governmental and private resources over time, can preserve and increase the supply of available units to rent or purchase by residents. The tools available to government and private entities include: Financing (e.g. Housing bank; Tisbury Housing Trust: Community Preservation funds; State housing finance; Local tax incentives, etc.); Policy and by-law guidelines (e.g. Accessory Dwelling Unit zoning; Short Term Rental Zoning; Room rental tax fees use; Wastewater incentive policies), and Resident awareness and engagement.

For this fiscal year the Tisbury Affordable Housing Committee, focused its work and discussion on two (2) goals that address parts of this problem. First, to increase the availability of full time rental housing units, by exploring an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) By Right by-law; and Second, to stop the erosion of previously full time occupied housing units to non-full-time rental use by adopting a short term rental zoning by-law.
